School Meals

Breaktime Snacks

We encourage children to eat healthily. All children in our infant class, (Years R, 1 and 2), are provided with a daily piece of fruit or vegetable through the national Schools’ Fruit and Vegetable Scheme. Children in Years 3- 6 may bring a healthy snack of fruit or vegetable to eat at breaktime if they wish. We do not allow children to eat sweets in school.

School Dinners

School Dinners.jpgWe are pleased to say that the majority of our children regularly eat school dinners. Hot meals are prepared at Poulner Junior School by Hampshire’s catering service, HC3S and are transported to us each day by taxi. There is a choice of hot meal each day and children can choose on a daily basis whether or not they wish to have one. Click here for the HC3S Menu

All children in Years R, 1 and 2 are eligible for universal free school meals and can receive a hot school dinner free of charge. For children in Key Stage 2, (Years 3 to 6), the current cost of a meal is £2.10 per day. You will be notified as soon as possible of any change to this cost. Some children in Years 3 to 6 may be eligible for free school meals: To check whether your child is eligible for free school meals follow the link below:

If your child is not allowed to eat certain foods for medical, religious or other reasons, please let us know and we will inform HC3S caterers.

We encourage children to eat their meals whilst recognising that appetites vary and children may dislike some foods. Menus are sent home termly so that you are aware of the choice of food available each day.

Packed Lunches

You may choose to provide your child with a packed lunch. If you do, please ensure that food is packed in a sealed container and that any drinks are in a leak-proof and unbreakable container. Children may not bring cans or glass bottles to school.

A small ice pack in the sandwich box during the summer keeps everything cool. There is nothing worse than a warm sandwich or yoghurt!

We offer lunchtime milk which is provided by Cool Milk. Please follow the link below to find out more and to register your child to receive milk.

Under-5s are entitled to free milk; please register in the same way.

Children who are eligible for Pupil Premium are also entitled to free milk,  please register at the school office.

Every child has their own water bottle, provided by the school. We encourage the children to drink water regularly throughout the day.
